 College Now

iAM has a partnership with Borough of Manhattan Community College in which students are allowed to go on the BMCC campus to take college classes for at least 4 times a week. This is very effective because they get to get a feel of college before leaving high school.

BMCC College Now program is part of CUNY's largest collaborative program with the New York City secondary public school system. The program offers pre-college and college credit courses to students from more than 20 New York City high schools and enrolls close to 1,000 students annually. The goal of College Now is to help students meet high school graduation requirements and prepare for success in college, both academically and socially. Housed within the BMCC School of Education, the College Now program supports extensive collaborative partnerships between the college, the City University of New York, and the New York City Department of Education. The goal of these partnerships is to encourage college-bound awareness and acquisition of essential skills among high school students. The program provides services to ninth through 12th graders in many Brooklyn public high schools.

College Now offers a full array of services centered around a core sequence of courses with a strong focus on academic, social, and practical preparedness for college. Entry points into the program include college preparatory classes for students at all levels, college credit courses for qualified 11th and 12th graders, video production workshops, community-based service learning, and hands-on science workshops. Talented CUNY undergraduate and graduate students provide mentoring to high school students in each program component as "teaching scholars," fostering a supportive learning community. In collaboration with college faculty, professional and curriculum development opportunities are offered to tutors and teachers both on campus and at the partner schools. Open houses for students, school-based professionals, and families offer information on opportunities available through College Now and throughout CUNY.

Research Schools

The first step in the process of choosing a school is research. This is where students begin to learn about different schools and the programs they offer. Students also learn about the academic requirements and the overall admission process. Finding out about student life and culture can be an important step in the research process too.

Application Process

The college application process is lengthy with many parts and requires a lot of time and patience. Beginning the application process early and devoting time to crafting a personal college essay are important in gaining acceptance to a students first choice school. Along with supporting documents such as high school transcripts, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, and financial aid (FAFSA) all help the student application go smoothly.
